150 years of the music of poland: collaboration with the paderewski festival

Our October concert represents both a new collaboration and an important part of our 40th season. The 5th Annual Paderewski Festival honors the musical life and legacy of acclaimed Polish pianist Ignacy Jan Paderewski, whose contributions to music included several concerts in North Carolina between 1905 and 1939.

Jim Waddelow has curated a program that draws a consistent throughline of Polish influence and accomplishment – from the mid-1800’s to the 21st Century. Our guest piano soloist is Hubert Rutkowski, who has been described as a “sensitive poet of sound” by Gramophone Magazine.

While each season of the year has its unique place in music and literature, Spring is the one that inspires artists and listeners alike. Specifics of the play, selections and singers will be determined in the Fall of 2019 and we’ll share this with you very soon.
